KIEV Devante Smith-Pelly Jersey , Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenkosaid on Tuesday he has signed the law to amend the country's statebudget for this year, which envisages boosting the defence spendingby around 100 million U.S. dollars.

"Providing the Ukrainian Army with several extremely importanttypes of armament, including Oplot tanks, is the first priority ofdefense sector financing," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the extra funding will also go to theconstruction of an ammunition manufacturing plant and theimplementation of social programs for the army servicemen.

Last month, the Ukrainian parliament adopted the law to boostthe overall budget expenditures this year by three percent to 32billion U.S. dollars due to higher-than-expected revenues in thefirst half of the year.

Apart from the defense sector, the additional funding will bedirected for programs on ensuring public order and resolvingsocial-economic issues.

Ukraine's total spending on defense this year is expected toreach 5.1 billion U.S. dollars or about five percent of thecountry's gross domestic product. Enditem

TIRANA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Albania's public debt has gone downto 66.9 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the middle ofthis year, Albanian Ministry of Finance informed Friday.

The public debt dropped by about 4.2 percentage points in theend of June, 2017 compared to the level of nearly 71 percentreported at the end of last year, official data showed.

The fall has been even beyond government's forecasts as in thisyear's budget the Albanian government predicted that the debt wouldfall to not less than 69.1 percent of GDP.

However, economic experts told local media that this ratiomeasured debt stock in mid-year versus total annual output.

This means that the nominal debt value will increase furtherduring the year and its weight versus national output as well, theysaid.

However, based on the data of the first semester, the debt hasalmost 'frozen' even in absolute value.

At the end of June, Albania's public debt was 1.67 trillionleks, or about 9.3 billion U.S. dollars. Compared to the end of2016, the public debt stock has increased by only 1 billionlek.

The freezing of debt stock is due in particular to thesignificant reduction of the value of foreign loans taken by theAlbanian government. The total value of loans from foreigncreditors has dropped to 468 billion leks, 13 billion leks lessthan the end of last year.

The decline of about 100 million euros in the value of externalloans seems to have been the main factor that has curbed the debtin nominal terms and has reduced it substantially in realterms.

In the external debt side, the Albanian government has alsobenefited from the appreciation of lek in the exchange rate, whichhas lowered the equivalent value of debt received in euro and U.S.dollars.

Meanwhile, official statistics showed that in 2010, Albania'spublic debt was 715.5 billion leks or 5.65 billion U.S. dollars, which is around 58.5 percent of the GDP that year.

In 2012, the country's debt increased to 61 percent of the GDPand the figure climbed to 65.08 percent in 2013. At the end of2014, the public debt grew to 69.17 percent.

In 2015, the country's public debt hit the highest level of over72 percent of the GDP. In March that year, the debt exceeded thelevel of 1 trillion leks or 7.9 billion dollars.

The Albanian parliament has recently adopted a proposal draftedby the Ministry of Finance to cut the year-on-year public debt.Enditem

MADRID, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Classico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid was the main course of Matchday 22 in La Liga: a weekend when Athletic Club Bilbao were the only side in the top 10 to win.

The Classico provided plenty of tension, but was lacking the quality expected from arguably the best two club sides in the world.

Real Madrid had the better of a first half in which Cristiano Ronaldo missed two good chances, before Barcelona improved after the break and took the lead with a Luis Suarez header. The Catalans were in charge in the second half, but after Leo Messi and Neymar missed chances to seal the win, Sergio Ramos equalized with a 90th minute header.

That result means Sevilla would have moved second had they won away to bottom of the table Granada, but Jorge Sampaoli's side chose the wrong moment to have an off day against a rival who had not won all season.

Jerome Boga was a constant threat for the Granada and set up Andres Pereira for their opening goal before Lomban doubled the lead from a second half corner, with Sevilla's only goal coming from the penalty spot in the last kick of the game.

Atletico Madrid also had a chance to close the gap at the top, but failed to break down an Espanyol that has now not conceded a goal in 496 minutes of league football.

Villarreal also failed to close the gap at the top as they were held to a 0-0 draw in a dull game away to Leganes with new home keeper Iago Hererin producing two fine saves to keep the scores level.

Athletic Bilbao got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win at home to local rivals, Eibar. Missing strikers Aritz Aduriz and Raul Garcia, goals from Benat Etxeberria, Inaki Williams and Iker Munian settled a tense gave where Sergi Enrique's goal kept Eibar in with a chance right until the end.

Betis and Celta shared six goals and an exciting 90 minutes played during a heavy rainstorm which only served to add to the emotion.

Iago Aspas scored twice for Celta and has nine goals this season, while Ruben Castro, Antonio Sanabria and Pezzella scored for Betis and Roncaglia netted the sixth goal of the game.

Alaves and Las Palmas shared the spoils in Vitoria with Marco Livaja's 57th minute goal cancelling out Alexis' fourth minute opener for the home side.
