LA PAZ Nike Air Force 1 Alte Donne Scontate , Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- The torch for the upcoming 2014 South American Games traveled closer to its final destination Wednesday, leaving Tiwanaku, Bolivia, on its way to Chile, following a ceremony attended by officials from both countries.

The games will be held in Chile's capital Santiago from March 7 to 18.

During the event in Tiwanaku, ruins that have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Nike Air Force 1 Alte Uomo Scontate , president of the Bolivian Olympic Committee Alvaro Guzman lit the torch.

Attending the ceremony were Bolivian Sports Minister Tito Montano, his Chilean counterpart Gabriel Ruiz, and Cesar Cocarico and Edmundo Novillo, governors of the Bolivian departments of La Paz and Cochabamba, respectively.

At Tiwanaku, located 72 km northwest of La Paz, Montano handed the torch to a "chasqui" -- or messenger Nike Air Force 1 Alte Scontate , in the Quechua language of Bolivia -- who is charged with delivering it to the host city, some 1,972 km away, by March 7.

Marcela Gonzalez, the executive director of this year's games, and Jaime Agliati, secretary general of the Chilean Olympic Committee Nike Air Force 1 07 Basse Scontate , also attended the ceremony.

In June 1978, the South American Sports Organization (Odesur) ruled that the torch should always be lit in Tiwanaku, as a way to remember the first ever South American Games, which were held in La Paz that same year.

Athletes from Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil Nike Air Force 1 07 Mid Scontate , Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guyana, Panama, Paraguay, Peru Nike Air Force 1 07 Alte Scontate , Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela will be competing in the games.

The Bolivian delegation includes 121 athletes.
