OTTAWA Cheap Jeff Heath Jersey , Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Almost half of employees are living paycheque to paycheque due to soaring spending and debt levels, according to a new survey released by the Canadian Payroll Association Wednesday.
The survey, which polled 4,766 Canadian employees between June 27 and Aug. 5 this year, discovered that 47 percent of respondents said it would be difficult to meet their financial obligations if their paycheque were delayed by even one week.
It also found that 35 percent feel overwhelmed by their level of debt.
The survey shows that respondents found mortgages on principal residences the most difficult debt to pay down, with 32 percent of respondents selecting this option compared to 23 percent who cited credit card debt.
The survey results said the primary reason for increased debt is higher overall spending.
Of the major reasons for increased spending, 32 percent of respondents pointed to higher living expenses while 25 percent mentioned unexpected expenses.

CAPE TOWN, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) - A motion to dissolve South African Parliament and hold early elections was defeated in the National Assembly on Tuesday evening.
Only 83 members of parliament (MPs) supported the motion, while 229 voted against it, with seven abstentions.
The opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) submitted the motion after a no-confidence motion against President Jacob Zuma was aborted on August 8.
The DA said it wants to dissolve Parliament and hold early elections as the government led by the African National Congress (ANC) does not govern in the interest of the people and has lost all legitimacy.
But the DA was unable to rally support for the motion. Smaller opposition parties refused to support the motion, with some saying the Independent Electoral Commission would not be ready to hold early elections on a short notice.
The ANC said it was a waste of time to debate the motion.
MPs should deal with substantive matters affecting the lives of the poor majority of South Africans rather than discussing a frivolous motion by the DA, said Nonceba Mhlauli, spokesperson of the Office of the ANC Chief Whip.
